Charleston
Charleston South Carolina is a special place. It was originally founded in 1670 and has experienced an interesting if not turbulent history. In its early years the area was subject to attack from both the French and Spanish and was even vulnerable to pirate raids. This is because the city also had one of the largest shipping ports in the country. There were many plantations where a lot of rice and indigo were produced and the city enjoyed a lot of prosperity early in its history.
